Index – Domestic – Fireworks may not be held if the operative tribe decides to do so

The operative group is taking care of the safe conduct of the series of programs to be held on August 20, and they will also hold physical meetings during the special events, wrote Zoltán Kovács on Facebook.

“The event on August 20, 2006, with a tragic outcome, was a consequence of the irresponsibility of the organizers and decision-makers at the time. This cannot happen now, since all information is available to the operatives, they are made up of decision-makers who can intervene at any event location and, if necessary, stop the event – this is also true for the fireworks display on Tuesday evening,” the secretary of state’s post states.

The development of the weather is being monitored with observation and measurement stations deployed especially for this occasion, if necessary, the operational staff will make a decision on postponement based on the available information, which will of course be shared in all possible forms and channels, Zoltán Kovács added.

If there is even the slightest chance that the weather will interfere with tomorrow night’s fireworks, we will make the necessary decisions

We have been afraid of the postponement since 2022

In 2022, due to unfavorable weather conditions, the operative group responsible for the national holiday on August 20 decided not to organize the fireworks planned for the occasion of the founding of the state. And on the first working day after the holiday, Minister of Technology and Industry László Palkovics relieved Kornélia Radics and Gyula Horváth, the president of the National Meteorological Service (OMSZ) and the professional deputy president of the organization.

Although the dismissal of the two leaders was not justified, the background of the case may have been that it was revealed on Sunday: the August 20 fireworks display had to be suspended in Budapest based on an incorrect OMSZ forecast.
