Index – Culture – Harvey Weinstein, who was convicted of sexual harassment, was hospitalized again

The 72-year-old convicted rapist was taken to the prison hospital with several health complaints, four years after he began serving his 23-year prison sentence, according to a press release from representatives. Records from the New York Department of Corrections revealed that Weinstein was placed in a prison ward at Bellevue Hospital.

Weinstein, who has been convicted of rape in New York and California, suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure and spinal stenosis, fluid in his heart and lungs, and recently tested positive for Covid-19 and developed pneumonia.

The Guardian reported that a Manhattan jury found Weinstein guilty of rape in February 2020, but the New York Court of Appeals overturned the verdict in April, finding that Weinstein did not receive a fair trial because a judge improperly allowed the testimony of accusers.

The case became a milestone

Weinstein, who has been hospitalized several times in Bellevue, has denied wrongdoing and having sex without consent. He may be arraigned again in September on rape charges in Manhattan. His lawyers said they wanted to get through the process as soon as possible.

Manhattan district attorneys said they intended to charge him with “additional violent sexual assault” after several women testified. Weinstein’s conviction was a landmark in the metoo movement, in which women

hundreds of men have been accused of sexual abuse

in entertainment, media, politics and other fields.

The jury found that the co-founder of the Miramax film studio sexually harassed former production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006 and raped actress Jessica Mann in 2013. Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison.
