A 50-bed specialized ‘Thalassemia Foundation Hospital’ has been inaugurated under the initiative of Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation to ensure the treatment of Thalassemia patients.
On Tuesday (May 7), the hospital built in Malibagh Hosaf Tower of the capital was inaugurated by the senior consultant of Asghar Ali Hospital, Professor Dr. Manzoor Morshed.
The senior consultant of the foundation was present as a special guest. Salma Afroz and foundation consultant Dr. Jannatul Ferdous. Dr. Abdur Rahim, Founder and Secretary General of Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation presided over the event.

The speakers in their speech emphasized on conducting hemoglobin electrophoresis test for diagnosis of thalassemia before marriage to prevent thalassemia in the country.
According to the organizers, the standard laboratory of Thalassemia Foundation Hospital has the necessary testing facilities for the diagnosis and treatment of Thalassemia. Blood banks are there to meet the blood needs of Thalassemia patients. 3 thousand 500 bags of blood are collected annually from voluntary blood donors in this blood bank.
Earlier, a colorful rally was organized by Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation on the occasion of World Thalassemia Day. The rally started at 8 am from Hosaf Tower in the capital’s Malibagh, circled the CID headquarters and ended back at Hosaf Tower.
