For children, owning their first bike is a special dream come true. The choice of the right model needs to be carefully considered and often leads to situations where bikes for young and old are in great demand year after year, especially in spring and early summer. According to willhaben platform data, the brands Woom, KTM and Cube are currently particularly popular with parents and their offspring.
This high demand also meets the corresponding offer on Austria’s largest digital marketplace, because: There are currently almost 88,000 advertisements online in the “Bicycles” category – around 26,000 of which are children’s bicycles. On average, children’s bikes have been offered on willhaben for around 150 euros so far in 2024.
But: Where are the young Austrian cyclists at home? willhaben looked at which local districts offer the most children’s bicycles in relation to the number of residents.
90 percent more children’s bikes on offer than before Corona
In the first few months of 2024, more advertisements went online in willhaben’s bicycle section than ever before in this period. At the same time, the number of active advertisements in the area of children’s bicycles has also increased significantly – by 16 percent compared to the comparable period of the previous year 2023 and by a whopping 90 percent compared to the first months of 2020.
In relation to the number of residents, most children’s bicycles are offered in the Upper Austrian Urfahr area. But: In the Graz area (Styria), Gänserndorf (Lower Austria), Klagenfurt-Land (Carinthia) and Korneuburg (Lower Austria), there are also a particularly large number of two-wheeled companions waiting to become the property of another child.
