MOSCOW – Russia carried out long-range strikes and drone strikes against various targets of the Ukrainian Armed Forces including military air bases.

The Russian Ministry of Defense (Kemhan) explained this on Wednesday (12/6/2024), without providing location details.

Earlier, Ukrainian media reported an explosion in the city of Mirgorod in the Poltava Region, where a large military airfield is located.

Russian war correspondent Andrey Rudenko published a short video on his Telegram channel on Wednesday showing one Su-27 fighter jet being destroyed by an Iskander short-range ballistic missile.

This clip was filmed from a bird’s eye view using a surveillance drone. He added it was an air base in Mirgorod.

“Nearby you can see piles of plane wreckage from previous attacks on this airfield,” Rudenko said.

This attack appeared to be in retaliation after Ukraine claimed to have destroyed a Russian Su-57 fighter jet. Moscow was furious due to Kiev’s attack.

The Russian Ministry of Defense also published footage showing an Iskander attack on an S-300 air defense system in an area near the Mirgorod airfield, located in the village of Polyvyanoye.
