TEHERAN – Hussain’s Red Flag was raised by Iran, shortly after the death of Hamas Leader Ismail Haniyeh.

So what is the meaning of this red flag raising? Is it related to revenge?

This is not the first time that the Hussain red flag has been raised in Iran. The flag-raising incident previously occurred in 2020, when their military leader Major General Qassem Soleimani was killed in a US attack.

This red flag has its own meaning, where the red color in the flag represents blood that was spilled unfairly.

Red is also one of the colors of the Iranian national flag which means courage. If the two meanings are combined, it creates the meaning of “spirit and courage to take revenge”.

In the flag itself there is the inscription “Ya Litharat al-Hussein” (Yes to the avengers of Hussein) the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad SAW who was killed in a bloody battle in Karbala.

The Meaning of Hoisting the Red Flag of Hussain

From various interpretations, both related to the color and the writing on the red Hussain flag, it means that the raising of this flag signifies Iran’s strong spirit for revenge.

Revenge here means related to the death of Hamas Leader, Ismail Haniyeh who was killed in Tehran. His death is strongly suspected to have been orchestrated by Israel.

In this regard, news emerged from Israel’s Channel 12 reporting that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been given additional security in anticipation of an Iranian response.
