Not every family is lucky enough to decorate their table with plenty of gifts and spend the holiday as they wish.

Shakarbura, baklava, gogal…
It is impossible to imagine Novruz without shakerbura, baklava, and gogal, which are used to compose music and decorate khonchas. Rich, poor – it doesn’t matter, these three sweets are as important as malt on the holiday table of every family. Let’s see how much it costs to cook them?
For sweets, two kilograms of flour is at least three manats, if the oil is butter, two kilograms are 30 manats, yogurt is 3-4 manats, ten eggs are one manat and 70 kopecks, one kilogram of walnut kernels is 16 manats, one kilogram of hazelnut kernels is 15 manats, two kilograms of powdered sugar. it is four manats. Two manats are needed for additional spices. Thus, the preparation of Novruz sweets costs at least 73-74 manats. If you want to buy these sweets ready-made, one piece of shakerburan costs at least one manat, a kilogram of baklava starts at 20 manats, and one piece of gogal costs at least one manat. That is, if we buy at least ten shekerbura, ten gogals for a family of four, and one kilogram of baklava, we will have to spend 40 manats.
The price of shah pilaf is like a shah
The king of tables is pilaf. Nowruz holiday is unimaginable without pilaf. A family must pay a minimum of five manats per kilogram of rice to eat pilaf. 20 manats should be spent on it if we count the “black and white” next to it.
Today, the most expensive products are meat and butter. One kilogram of beef costs 13 manats, mutton 17-18 manats, chicken meat 6-10 manats. If you want to buy fish, for example, you will have to spend 17-20 manats.
How much does a khoncha cost?
We also discussed the prices in the market with economist expert Rauf Garayev. Our interlocutor researched the prices of khoncha, which is a decoration of the tables: “One kilogram of walnuts is 7-8 manats, innab is 6-12 manats, dates are 10-14 manats, walnuts and hazelnuts are eight manats, walnut kernels are 15 manats, hazelnut kernels are 16 manats, chestnuts are 14 manats, apricots are 8-20 AZN, pickles 7 AZN, raisins 8 AZN, pistachios (Iran) 26-28 AZN, pistachios (Turkey) 31-36 AZN, powdered sugar 2.20 AZN, wheat flour 1 AZN. In other words, a minimum of 127 manats is spent on one khoncha.”
Can you have a table without fruit?
Let’s get to the fruits. Can you have a table without fruit? But if you want to fill your fruit bowl, you need to spend at least 17 manats: “One kilogram of mandarin is three manats, kiwi is four manats, banana is three manats, and pineapple is seven manats.”
Is there a price increase?
The economist says that the money spent on hot meals is at least 41 manats, 50 manats on sweets, and 6 manats on juices. A family of four should spend at least 270 AZN to open a holiday table.
Everyone is interested in this year’s price increase. According to the economist, inflation recorded in March last year was 13.8 percent. In January of this year, the mentioned indicator is 1.7 percent. That is, there is no significant price increase.”
Cost of Nowruz holiday
As for the minimum living wage, the economist notes that the minimum living wage for 2024 is set at 270 manats for the country, 287 manats for the working population, 222 manats for pensioners, and 235 manats for children: “If a family has a mother, father and two children if there is, the income should be 1044 manats so that family can live for one month. 270 manats of the 1044 manat income should be spent on Nowruz Bayram. According to the law on the limit of the need criterion, this indicator was approved in the amount of 270 manats for the year 2024 in order to determine the targeted state social assistance. Considering the criterion of need, 270 manat is the minimum monthly living amount for a person. The living minimum is 270 manats. It used to be different numbers. But this amount is not enough for a poor person to spend the holiday. As a result, unlike the middle class and the upper class, poor people will depend on the environment to spend the holiday.”
