Ghiyas Uddin Selim’s new film ‘Kajalrekha’ released almost fifteen years after its announcement. ‘Kajalrekha’ film of 24 folk songs made with government grant. ‘Kajalrekha’ is a film of slow pace that does not seem real from the organizational point of view of kings, zamindars, slaves. Kajalrekha is a picture of beautiful photography and nature lover. ‘Kajalrekha’ is a folk tale film where the destiny of women is to be tolerated without protest. The female lead is Mymensingh lyricist Ek Pal Kajal Rekha, whose story is known to many. Because it was once included in textbooks. Rich businessman Dhaneshwar loses his business, wealth, elephants, horses, boats, maids all by gambling. With his daughter Kajalrekha and son Ratneshwar, Dhaneshwar continued to spend his days in poverty and danger. A saint saw him. Gives a ring. The main story of the movie begins.

The amount of revenue that was collected in Bengal during the Sultanate or Mughal period was not even then in England or America. It was probably then that the sayings of rice full of rice or fish full of ponds were coined. Mymensingh Gitika’s palas or stories are traditional stories of that time and Khati Bengal. The ‘arrangement’ or capital problem of Bengali films is a long-standing one. Horses, cows, elephants in the released film ‘Kajalrekha’ are not healthy. Just as the horse could not take the load of the princes, the needleman did not have a needle! The scene where the head is thrown away in a robbery scene is also funny, as it becomes clear when the fake head falls off.
One of the characters of this film is ‘Sukh Pakhi’. As everything happens according to God’s instructions, it is like the arrival of Sukhpakhi in that role in this film. Sukhpakhi’s color, voice or disappearing scene can also be questioned!
The film stars Shariful Raj as Ikkumar and Mandira Chakraborty as Kajalrekha. Sadia Ayman played Kajal Rekha’s teenage role. This is Mandira and Sadia’s first film, good luck to them. Rafiyat Rasheed Mithila played the role of Kangkan Dasi. Iresh Zaker as Dhaneshwar, Gausul Alam Shaon as Minister, Khairul Bashar as Ixkumar’s friend and Jhuna Chowdhury as Brahmin. Azad Abul Kalam has played a multi-dimensional character that is sometimes wise, sometimes a saint, sometimes a temple priest, sometimes a guide.
Eresh Zaker was slated to play the role of Ikkumar when the film was planned around 2009-10. During the shooting of the film, Iresh Dhaneshwar and Shariful Raj played the role of Iksuma. Eresh was brilliant in his performance. Compared to that, Raj was very pale!

Apart from conventional lyrics, Piyas Uddin Salim also wrote himself. Besides directing, he also wrote the screenplay of the film. ‘Kajalrekha’ has been shot in Susong Durgapur, Sundarbans, Haor region of Sylhet in Netrakona. Ghiyas Uddin Salim can be thanked for the courage to create such a picture in the reality of Bangladesh.
Emon Chowdhury was the music director of the film. The song is sung by Avanti Sinthi, Humaira Ishika and Antara Mandal. Kamrul Hasan Khosru has shot the film. He can be thanked for the beautiful visualization of nature’s beauty.
Special Note: Another film called ‘Kajalrekha’ was released in the country four decades ago, directed by Safgar Ali. Javed, Kalpana, Jasim and many others acted in the film.
