A 52-year-old man was shot dead after going to collect the million-dollar prize he had won in the lottery. The incident occurred last Tuesday in the city of Quillota in Chile and, in recent days, a dark family plot was discovered behind it: his nephew was involved in the crime.

In the early hours of Saturday, the Chilean Police arrested the 21-year-old man accused of murdering his own uncle along with three other accomplices to keep the money.

It all started in October 2023 when the victim won the jackpot in the lottery, whose total was around a little more than a million dollars. According to the head of the Homicide Brigade (BH) of the Valparaíso PDI, Víctor Salazar, the man went to withdraw the cash on February 6 of this year and for that he traveled from Rancagua with his partner and his nephew. .

That day, he was only going to withdraw a part of the prize from the bank. However, when he was leaving the place he was intercepted by a group of men who arrived armed and demanded the money. When he resisted, one of the assailants shot him three times in the leg and caused serious bleeding. Finally, the criminals fled the scene and the victim died at the scene along with his companions.

After the police investigation, the case took an unexpected turn: not only had it been a premeditated robbery but his nephew was the organizer of the crime. The 21-year-old boy knew that his uncle had won the lottery and that that day he was going to withdraw part of his prize, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to carry out the assault.

According to police sources, the nephew confessed to the crime and revealed that he did it out of financial need. “The detainee will be placed at the disposal of the Quillota Guarantee Court for the corresponding detention control,” said Salazar.
