Newly appointed captain Hardik Pandya has joined the Mumbai Indians camp ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. The five-time IPL champions will begin their IPL 2024 campaign under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya against Gujarat Giants at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 24. Ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, Hardik Pandya was traded by Gujarat Titans to Mumbai Indians in a cash deal worth Rs 15 crore. Just weeks after returning to his old franchise, the star all-rounder was appointed MI captain, replacing five-time IPL-winning skipper Rohit Sharma. Hardik played a key role in the success of Mumbai Indians from 2015 to 2021, winning four titles with the team and after that, he moved to join Gujarat Titans in 2022.

In a video shared by Mumbai Indians on their X handle (formerly Twitter), Hardik Pandya, wearing the team’s traditional blue practice kit, walked into the dressing room and hugged head coach Mark Boucher. Pandya performed a short puja on his return to his old franchise and head coach Mark Boucher broke a coconut as a symbol of auspiciousness as per Hindu custom.

Hardik Pandya’s rise as an all-rounder began when he was brought in by Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2015 auction. Since then, he has climbed the ladder of success and become an important asset for Mumbai Indians. With Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya has scored 1,476 runs in 92 matches at an average of 27.33, including four half-centuries. He took 42 wickets with the ball.
