Abdellatif Hamouchi, Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, was appointed to the French Republic in response to an official invitation from officials of the French security services.
According to a statement by the General Directorate of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Hammouchi met during the working visit, which lasted from June 26 to 28, with his counterparts in the National Police, Internal Security and External Security in France, and discussed with them mechanisms to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various security fields of common interest.
The statement, which was received by Hespress, added that the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance held, during the work of this visit, a series of meetings and discussions that brought him together, respectively, with Céline BERTHON, Director General of Internal Security, and Nicolas LERNER, Director General of External Security in France, which included ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of combating terrorism and organized crime, and raising levels of coordination and exchange of intelligence and operational data on various threats emanating from extremist organizations and transnational crime networks.
The same communication indicated that “the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance was accompanied during these bilateral discussions, which concerned the intelligence aspect of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, by an important security delegation representing the General Directorate of National Territorial Surveillance.”
In the context of this visit, the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance also met with Fréderic VEAUX, Director General of the French National Police, and held extensive discussions with him, in the presence of an important delegation from the General Directorate of National Security, during which the mechanisms of advanced cooperation and coordination between the two parties were reviewed. Various security fields, especially with regard to developing proactive mechanisms to assess risks and exchange data on the sidelines of joint work in securing the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris.
As a culmination of the distinguished Moroccan-French cooperation in various security fields, the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance was exceptionally decorated with the French National Police Gold Medal of Honor, in recognition of his efforts in consolidating and developing joint security cooperation.
The statement stressed that this visit “was an opportunity for the French and Moroccan sides to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in a number of areas of combating transnational crime, particularly those related to drug and psychotropic substance smuggling, illegal immigration networks and human trafficking, in addition to practical mechanisms for cooperation in the areas of implementing joint security procedures and operations.”
It is worth noting that this visit indicates the importance of raising the levels of bilateral security cooperation between Morocco and France, which share many work programs and bilateral coordination, and face common security challenges. This visit also comes in the context of the involvement of the interests of the General Directorate of National Security and the General Directorate of National Territorial Surveillance within the international security cooperation system to ensure effective contribution to neutralizing terrorist and criminal risks and threats at the regional and international levels.
