A period that most likely changed their lives for the worse forever. This is how more than a hundred gymnasts, including Olympic winners, will remember the sexual abuse that doctor Larry Nassar (60) was responsible for. Now, however, they learned important news. As part of the settlement, they collect a decent package.
The psychological damage that doctor Larry Nassar inflicted on a total of 139 female gymnasts through sexual abuse will probably never be fully repaired. However, the athletes got some satisfaction after all. The US Department of Justice announced on Tuesday, April 23, that it will pay the gymnasts a huge financial settlement, which is a result of the FBI’s poor handling of the original allegations.
As previously mentioned, Olympic champions Simone Biles, McKayla Maroney and Aly Raisman were also among those abused. A part of the total number of gymnasts decided to file a complaint with the Ministry of Justice in 2022. Why? It found that FBI officials in Indianapolis did not respond to allegations of abuse against Nassar that they received in 2015. This allowed the depraved doctor to continue his bestial acts.
How much is it exactly? A total of more than 3.2 billion crowns will be distributed among 139 victims! Each of the gymnasts should thus receive approximately 23.5 million crowns. “These allegations should have been taken seriously from the beginning. While the settlements will not undo the damage Nassar has done, we hope they will help provide the victims of his crimes with some of the critical support they need to continue their recovery.” USA Today quoted Deputy Attorney General Benjamin Mizer as saying.
And how is the culprit Nassar himself? He is serving a life sentence in prison for sexual assault and child pornography. A former doctor for the US women’s gymnastics team and an employee of Michigan State University was under the guise of providing medical care sexually abused more than 500 women and girls. But now, fortunately, his disgusting spree is over.
