This Saturday, President Nayib Bukele celebrated a historical milestone in the country’s security: 1,000 days without homicides, an unprecedented achievement in the recent history of the nation, which for years was among the most violent in the world.
Through his X account, Bukele said that, more than speeches, this moment invites reflection on the change lived and the forces that tried to prevent it. The president thanked God and recognized the work of the Security Cabinet, the National Civil Police and the Armed Forces, key institutions in the fight against gangs.
“Thanks is also for the thousands of men and women who risked their lives so that we can finally live in peace,” said Bukele.

According to police data, at the end of Friday, August 29, El Salvador registered 25 days without homicides only in August 2025, adding a total of 1,000 days without murders since the beginning of Bukele’s management. These results are mainly attributed to the territorial control plan and the exception regime implemented to combat violence.
During 2025, 202 days without homicides are already reported, while between March 27, 2022 and August 29, 2025, 886 days without murders are counted under the exception regime.
