This coming October 16, 17, 18 and 19, the production company OnStage brings to the Salvadoran public one of the most impressive works recognized by the world audience.
Carmina Buranacomposed by the German Carl Orff, is a show that brings together on the same stage more than 95 national artists which, through live orchestra, choral singing and dance, offer the audience a unique and powerful experience.
Premiered in 1937 and inspired by medieval poems written in Latin, Old German and French, the work celebrates and questions the great themes of life: fortune, love, the pleasures and beauty of the present. Carmina Burana It is structured in a series of songs and choruses that begin and culminate with the powerful hymn Or Fortunean icon of classical music throughout the world. Its dramatic force has made it one of the most emblematic works of the 20th century.
The production in San Salvador has the artistic direction of María Elena and Diana Arandawho have designed an impressive staging that integrates the symphonic, the choral and the choreographic. The show adds the talent of the Salvadoran teacher and choreographer Francisco Castillo; the choral direction is under the guidance of the teacher Edgar Soponand the orchestra direction is in charge of the teacher Alejandra Funes Bustamante.
To this great cast—made up of Salvadoran musicians, singers and dancers who, through an extensive audition process, add their talents to bring this production to the stage—is added the special participation, as first dancer, of Jorge Díaz de León.
Jorge is a Mexican teacher, choreographer and dancer. He is currently a principal dancer at the Antoinette Dance Company and serves as artistic director of opera and ballet for the Secretariat of Culture of the State of Puebla and the Municipal Institute of Art and Culture of Puebla.

About the teachers and the cast
Francisco Castillo
Salvadoran teacher, dancer and choreographer, Castillo began his dance studies at the Morena Celarié School in 1981 and has served as a recognized figure in contemporary dance in the country. His work as a choreographer extends to countries such as Mexico, Nicaragua, the United States and the Caribbean.
Edgar Sopon
Edgar Sopón is a Salvadoran musician, with a degree in Music with an emphasis on Performance and Teaching of Choral Conducting. Professor of music theory and piano and currently director of the Añil Coral Ensemble.
Alejandra Funes Bustamante.
Director and founder of the El Salvador Philharmonic Orchestra, she has musical training in cello performance, as well as international studies in orchestral conducting. Alejandra also serves as the main director of the Women’s Camerata of Mexico City.
Jorge Díaz de León.
Mexican teacher, choreographer and dancer certified by the Royal Academy of Dance. He is currently the artistic director and principal dancer at the Antoinette Dance Company of Mexico. Jorge also serves as the artistic director of opera and ballet for the Secretary of Culture of the State of Puebla and the Municipal Institute of Art and Culture of Puebla.
