Kazakhstan’s “Semurg Invest” company and the United Arab Emirates’ “AD Ports Group” company signed an agreement on the main terms of cooperation, which envisages mutual cooperation on the construction of a grain terminal and a multifunctional sea terminal “Sarja” in Kurik port.

Publika.az The Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan informs that the implementation of the project will increase the carrying capacity of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route by 10 million tons per year.

“Today, a temporary warehouse is operating on the territory of the future terminal, two berths, railway lines leading to and from the terminal area, the first phase of the grain terminal and the main cargo terminal have been completed. The first consignment is expected to be shipped soon. The full implementation of the project will increase the carrying capacity of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route by 10 million tons per year,” said Nurjan Marabayev, CEO of Semurg Invest.

It is expected that the “Sarja” terminal will be built and put into use in 2025. Thus, the estimated costs are 154 billion tenge (US$340.6 million) in the form of private investments. At the same time, a grain terminal, liquid and bulk cargo terminal will be built. In addition, the capacity of the grain terminal will be 1 million tons per year, provided that 25,000 tons of grain plants are stored at the same time.

It should be noted that “AD Ports Group” owns and manages ten ports and terminals in the United Arab Emirates.

“Semurg Invest” company is the owner and developer of the “Sarja” multi-functional sea terminal located in Kurik port. The total planned unloading capacity of the project is 10 million tons per year.

It should be recalled that the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route was established in February 2014 with the participation of the relevant structures of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Georgia. Later, Ukraine, Romania and Poland joined the project. Currently, the route starts from the China-Kazakhstan border and extends to Europe, passing through Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan and Georgia. In 2022, 1.5 million tons of cargo were transported through the Caspian Sea through the Middle Corridor. These cargoes were transported through Kurik and Aktau ports of Kazakhstan, Alat and Hovsan ports of Azerbaijan.
