Government delivers $32 billion to 2,357 cultural and artistic projects throughout Chile

The Culture 2024 Funds of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage will deliver a total of $31,842 million to 2,357 cultural, artistic and heritage projects throughout Chile.

These results were achieved after announcing the selection of the last 27 missing lines, which were added to the 17 already announced, completing the 44 lines of the 2024 call.

“With these results we continue to advance in promoting creation and complying with the axes that we proposed for this call: the decentralization and territoriality of the projects, the revitalization of the sector and cultural employment, and the reduction of gender gaps in the work teams” said the Minister of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, Carolina Arredondo.

Regionalization

One of the focuses of Culture Funds 2024 was to deepen the decentralization and territoriality of the selected projects. In this area, the 44 lines of the call awarded $18,665 million to 1,489 initiatives from regions other than the Metropolitan, representing 58.6% of the resources and 63.2% of the projects. Initiatives will be carried out in all regions (16) and communes (346) of the country.

A second axis of the call is the reactivation of the cultural and artistic sector. More than 7,800 cultural workers will participate in the work teams of the selected projects, who will receive more than $13 billion in terms of contracts and assignments. Of the 7,800 people that make up the teams, more than 5 thousand correspond to workers from regions other than the Metropolitan, representing 64.0% of the total.

The third focus was the reduction of gender gaps. The figures show that the work teams are made up of a majority of women (4,100), which represent 52.4% of the total. This axis also considers the financing of care work in the Chile Crea Scholarships, which in this version represent more than $65 million. These resources will make it possible to include expenses corresponding to the care of daughters, sons, girls and boys under guardianship, contributing to equal participation between men and women.

Results by funds

National Fondart

This fund selected 278 projects, to which it will provide a total of $4,708 million. The funded initiatives correspond to the field of artistic creation, cultural infrastructure and research.

In the area of ​​decentralization and territoriality, this fund will deliver $2,507 million to 122 projects in regions other than the Metropolitan, which represents 53.3% of the resources and 43.9% of the total selected.

The projects have more than 900 people in their work teams, to whom more than $2.45 billion will be awarded in contracts and assignments. Women represent 52.4% of the team members.

Fondart Regional

The call selected 446 projects, awarding a total of $7,093 million. The supported initiatives include the organization of exhibitions, fairs, meetings and festivals; the development of regional cultures; the promotion of the culture of indigenous peoples; formation activities; among other areas.

Regarding decentralization and territoriality, the fund will deliver $5,619 million to 375 cultural projects in regions other than the Metropolitan, which is equivalent to 79.2% of the resources and 84.0% of the selected initiatives.

More than 1,800 people are considered within the work teams, who will receive nearly $3.3 billion through contracts and assignments. In the selected projects, women represent 57.6% of the team members.

Book and Reading Fund

The fund selected 607 projects in the field of books and reading, to which a total of $5,138 million will be awarded. These resources will be used to hold regional book festivals and fairs, to stimulate literary creation, to support the book industry, to promote reading and to develop research, among other things.

In the area of ​​decentralization and territoriality, the Book and Reading Fund awarded $3,311 million to 374 projects in regions other than the Metropolitan, representing 64.4% of the resources and 61.6% of the initiatives.

The work teams have more than 1,400 workers in the book and reading sector, who will receive more than $1.4 billion in contracts and assignments. Of the total, women represent 50% of the team members.

Music Background

The call will deliver a total of $2,829 million to 261 projects in the field of national music. The resources are directed towards holding festivals; to the support of choirs, orchestras and instrumental bands; to the dissemination of national music; to the research and registration of national music; to the financing of infrastructure and equipment; and to the production of phonographic record.

Regarding the decentralization and territoriality of the projects, the fund will deliver $1,714 million to 148 initiatives in regions other than the Metropolitan, representing 60.6% of the resources and 56.7% of the selected projects.

A total of 1,285 workers in the music sector are considered in the work teams, who will receive $1,047 million in terms of contracts and assignments. Women represent 42.3% of the team members.

Audiovisual Background

The fund selected 123 audiovisual projects, to which it will give $6,052 million. The financing is intended to support the audiovisual production of feature films and short films; to the development of original scripts and literary adaptations; to the production of video games; to film and video game distribution; to the investigation; among other initiatives.

The call will deliver $1,606 million to 49 projects in regions other than the Metropolitan, representing 26.5% of the resources and 39.8% of the selected initiatives.

The work teams include a total of about 570 people from the audiovisual world, who will be awarded $2,028 million in contracts and assignments. Of the total, women represent 47.1% of the team members.

Performing Arts Fund

This call will deliver a total of $3,702 million to 272 projects in the field of national performing arts. The resources will finance the holding of festivals and meetings; stage creation initiatives; the national circulation of stage productions as well as their production; the creation or improvement of equipment for companies and performing spaces; and promote research; etc

In relation to decentralization and territoriality, the fund will deliver $2,493 million to 176 projects in regions other than the Metropolitan, which is equivalent to 67.3% of the resources and 64.7% of the selected initiatives.

The work teams include more than 1,400 national performing arts workers, who will receive more than $1,876 million in contracts and assignments. Women represent 56.1% of the team members.

Chile Crea Scholarships

For its part, in the Chile Crea Scholarships, $2,319 million will be awarded for 370 training and research projects, of which 57.8% correspond to people from regions other than the Metropolitan and 63.1% correspond to women.
