The General Prosecutor’s Office of the Federal Republic of Germany initiated a case to find out the circumstances of the wiretapping of high-ranking officers of the Bundeswehr. This was reported by TASS, based on the information of the German WDR TV channel.
The Prosecutor General personally conducts the investigation against unknown persons on suspicion of carrying out “secret intelligence activities”. The actual investigation was entrusted to the German Federal Criminal Police. Investigators must find out how unknown persons managed to eavesdrop on the conversation of the military and who exactly is responsible for it. Investigators assume that the Russian special service is involved in the wiretapping.
At the beginning of March, the Minister of Defense of Germany, Boris Pistorius, announced that the General Prosecutor’s Office will take action after the investigation of the military counter-intelligence service.
Let’s remind that at the beginning of the month “Russia today” agency published the transcript of the conversation between German officers discussing the possibility of bombing the Crimean bridge. The discussion on February 19 was attended by Frank Greffe, head of operations and exercises at the Bundeswehr Air Force Command, Air Force Inspector Ingo Gerhartz, and Fenske and Fröstedt of the Air Operations Center of the Bundeswehr Space Command. They proposed to divide the operation into phases and to turn to Great Britain’s assistance in planning. One of the officers announced that Taurus missiles and the French Rafale fighter jet could be used for the attack.
In connection with the discussion, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced a démarche to German Ambassador Alexander Lambsdorff and demanded clarifications.
