A Cuban doctor who emigrated to the United States donated a container of medicines to the local hospital in the town where he was born, the town of Punta Alegre on the north coast of the Ciego de Ávila province.

The Cuban, identified on social networks as Raynell Quiriello, is a doctor and a successful businessman in Florida. As indicated on social networks, he is known for his help to the small town where he comes from, but in recent weeks he has increased his support with food and medicine.

On social networks, the gratitude of local citizens grows, given the generous gesture of the Cuban who was helped by residents of the town to transfer the supplies in a container.

The local hospital of Punta Alegre, built almost 100 years ago by the former owners of a sugar mill that flourished there, received the collaboration of medicines in the midst of a mobilization of people who came to thank the tremendous gesture.

In a video that came out about the event, the local authorities assured that the medicines will not move from the town and will be used for the benefit of the inhabitants there.

Punta Alegre is a town of less than 6,000 people located in the Chambas municipality, on the north coast of Ciego de Ávila, the place was a prosperous place, the time when a sugar mill operated there, but in 1997 it had its last harvest and at the beginning of 2000 the Cuban government dismantled it. In 2017, the remaining vestige of Punta Alegre was devastated by Hurricane Irma. Punta Alegre, is also a place very affected by emigration, due to its intricate geography and its characteristic location on the north coast of Ciego Ávila, it has been the starting point for thousands of irregular departures of rafters. It is also known for its traditional parrandas and the conga, with its peculiar touch that has accompanied the Tigres de Ciego de Ávila baseball team in its most important victories.
