The adventure, which ended with a happy birthday song, began on January 11. The pilot Gabriel Ledesma left from Cuenca; His objective was to reach the last point of America. He traveled nearly 20,000 kilometers

He lived countless anecdotes during his time in Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina.

The Azuayo completed a journey achieved by few, however, the well-known ‘Suco’ commented that this journey is not his ultimate dream. He recognized that he is a man of challenges and likes to take them on.

“I traveled almost 100 percent of the route alone. Obviously, I met several bikers along the way, but my decision was to travel alone. There was fear, but then I got used to it.”

According to Gabriel, on the first day he advanced to Peru and was surprised by the amount of landscapes he could recognize.

He arrived in Cajamarca and began experiencing problems, since a sensor on his motorcycle turned on. She fixed it in no time.

During his journey he also passed through the Huascarán mountains, where he enjoyed the snow-capped mountains. He had time to arrive at Machu Picchu and see the Temple of the Incas.

Once he finished his journey through Peruvian territory, he arrived at Lake Titicaca. “Bolivia is a territory of challenges. There is a lot of poverty, but there were no major problems. Until I arrived in Argentina.”

On Argentine soil, the ‘Suco’ came across the renowned Route 40, where drivers face different obstacles. One of them is the lack of gasoline, food and signal.

The Azuayo could not complete it, but he did cover it for a few kilometers.

After demonstrating his expertise in this risky area, he passed through Jujuy, Santiago del Estero, Córdoba and Buenos Aires. Then, he began his journey to the Tierra del Fuego Archipelago (Ushuaia), which is nicknamed the End of the World.

“I had to do a section by ferry (cargo ships). I passed through the Magellan Archipelago. When I arrived at the end of the trip, I was greeted by a group of Asians. They told me that they consider us heroes. They don’t always have visitors, and when they get there they are happy. It was nice to receive their love,” recalls the Azuayo.

Ledesma also commented that, in that area, he had the opportunity to eat lamb meat, which is raised in Patagonia. “They have a special flavor, they are handsome sheep (smiles).”

Return

His return was through Chile. The adventure took a step along the route of the cursed 73. A road full of gravel. “Luckily I didn’t fall during the trip, just the motorcycle fell (smiles).”

Once this step was completed, the ‘Suco’ reached the southern highway and then arrived in Santiago de Chile, from where it proposed to reach Cuenca in three days.

According to Ledesma, to accomplish this and arrive exactly on his birthday, he had to travel 1,000 kilometers a day. This was not a problem for the Cuenca pilot. He did marathon stages, until on Tuesday, February 27, he arrived in his city, after 6:40 p.m.

“I’m not here to celebrate my birthday, but rather I chose this date to have a nice memory. My motorcycle was always ready, without further planning. Everything was in the moment. It was an adventure, without knowing what was going to happen. “All the decisions were made at the moment.”
