Fujian welcomes ‘South China Tiger Cubs’, 3 endangered animals

FUZHOU, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) — Meihuashan South China Tiger Breeding Institute. It is located in the southeastern province of Fujian, China. Three new South China tigers will be welcomed on Wednesday (January 17).

Luo Hongxing, deputy director of the Institute said on Thursday (January 18) that a mother tiger gave birth to three tiger cubs after 106 days of pregnancy.

The South China tiger is a subspecies endemic to China and is considered one of the 10 most endangered animals in the world. Currently, China has a population of only 250 South China tigers.

Incidentally, the Meihuashan South China Tiger Breeding Institute Founded in 1998 to help conserve this endangered tiger species, the institute provides training bases on wild life and food resources for China’s tigers southern. Covering an area of ​​100 hectares, it is the largest South China tiger wild breeding and training facility in the country. A total of 71 South China tigers have been bred at the institute so far, with a survival rate of more than 70%.
