Life is returning to normal in the rebuilt city of Fuzuli. Permanent settlement of 1,519 people, including 410 families, has been provided in the city. All conditions for living in the reconstructed buildings have been created for families.

Publika.az It presents the notes of AZERTAC’s regional correspondent’s visit to the city of Fuzuli.

In 2020, we are advancing along the Victory Road, where the Azerbaijani Army won victory in the Patriotic War. Surroundings are fortifications built during the Armenian occupation, minefields, villages destroyed as a result of Armenian vandalism, and destroyed homes. Finally, we reach the city of Fuzuli, the old city center has been destroyed, and on the other side of the road, the buildings that have risen again stand out.

Children’s voices of joy can be heard in Fuzuli, where life has returned. Moving through the neighborhood, we approach one of the residents. Rena Humbatova left Fuzuli at the age of seven and lived as a displaced person with her family. In 1994, they returned to one of the villages liberated during the successful Horadiz operation and settled there. He says that in 2020, along with our other lands, the liberation of Fuzuli was welcomed as a wedding-festival.

Rena Khumbatova decided to continue her professional activity here after the restoration of the city of Fuzuli.

“We looked longingly at these places from the village where we lived, we were waiting for the day when we would return. Finally, our heroic army won a historic Victory. Now the city of Fuzuli is being restored. I applied to continue my activity at the school here and I am currently working at the Fuzuli city school. During school years, it was very difficult to teach my students about the history of the occupation of our lands. But now, in free Fuzuli, we do not tell the students about the history of occupation, but about the Victory march, about the liberation of our lands thanks to the heroic sons. This gives us great pride.”

One of the residents of Fuzuli is Nazila Aliyeva, who returned to her hometown with her husband. He was born in Fuzuli in 1958 and his family lived on Gagarin Street, one of the central streets. Although they have fond memories of their hometown, they had to leave Fuzuli for the last time under the sound of cannons.

“Fuzuli is one of the charming corners of Karabakh. We had many wonderful days here, but the invasion cut short our dreams, we were forcibly displaced with shattered dreams… On March 16, 1992, Armenians started shelling the civilian population of Fuzuli, and we had to live under the sound of shells for a year. But in 1993, we were forced to leave our native country. With my two baby girls and my wife, we had a difficult time. It is true that we were given care and attention by our state, but living with homesickness gave us spiritual pain. Finally, we were lucky to win, we experienced the joy of victory. The blood of thousands of our martyrs flowed in these places where the battles were fiercest, so these lands are a place of oath for us”, says Mrs. Nazila.

Our interlocutor, who returned to Fuzuli, the rebuilt city, with tears of joy, was provided with a two-room house with all the amenities by our state:

“Our house has two balconies. Looking to one side, we see traces of Armenian vandalism in Fuzuli. The neighborhood where I spent my happy childhood years has already been destroyed, and the house I moved to has been destroyed. But on the other side, I hear the joyful voices of children, and when I look, I see a prosperous city, life is reviving.”

Yusif Aliyev is also a resident of Fuzuli, he was born here in 1947. He was displaced from his homeland during the Armenian occupation. When he returned to the city of Fuzuli at the age of 76, he felt that a new, prosperous life had begun.

“When I returned to our city, which was freed from occupation after 30 years, I was horrified to see how the Armenians demolished our houses, dug trenches, built fortifications, and mined the fields. At that moment, I thought, how did our strong army, our heroic sons free the territories that were under the control of the enemy for years in this difficult terrain?… When we reached our city, I was amazed by the newly established Fuzuli. Our state has built new buildings for us in a short period of time, all infrastructure has been created, a completely modern new school building has been built in our city by our brother Uzbekistan. Also, a recreation park, playgrounds for children’s entertainment have been created. Our houses are also built according to modern standards, there are no interruptions in heating and electricity. I pray for mercy to our martyrs who gave us these happy days, I wish healing to our veterans”, says Yusif Aliyev, sharing his thoughts with us.

It should be noted that the relocation of families to Fuzuli will be continued in the coming days. Currently, the construction of new buildings in this city continues rapidly.
