A popular parenting influencer, originally from the United States, was sentenced to four sentences of between 1 and 15 years in prison for child abuse against their own children. This is Ruby Franke, a content creator known for her YouTube channel “8 Passengers,” where she shared motherhood advice and won the love of millions of people around the world.

Last Tuesday, a Utah district court found her guilty of child abuse against her six children. Franke admitted her responsibility and acknowledged having deprived two of them of food, which earned him the aforementioned sentence.

What is known about the Ruby Franke child abuse case?

The content creator was arrested in August 2022, after one of her children managed to escape from her house and arrived at a neighbor’s home to ask for help. The minor, only 12 years old, revealed that his mother mistreated them by tying them with adhesive tape and depriving them of food; Due to these events, elements of the St. George Police Department went to the content creator’s home and arrested her.

According to police reports, the minors were malnourished and had visible marks on their bodies. The children were placed in state custody, while Franke faced legal proceedings for the crime of child abuse. It was not until February 20 that a judge convicted the content creator of the charges against her; Her sentence is still unclear, it will be in the coming days that members of the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole will announce the exact time she will spend behind bars.

Winward Law, the law firm representing the woman, said the child abuse occurred when Ruby Franke was under the influence of a marital counselor that led her to engage in “a distorted sense of morality.” It is worth mentioning that Ruby was married to a man named Kevin Franke, with whom she uploaded videos on YouTube and managed to have up to 2.3 million followers.

During her trial, Ruby apologized to her children, arguing that she acted this way because she “believed that darkness was light and right was wrong,” adding that she “would do anything in the world for you (her children). I took from them everything nice, safe and good.” Finally, she ended her speech by saying that she is currently taking therapy: “For the last four years I have decided to take counseling and guidance, which has led me into a dark delirium. My distorted version of reality was long unchecked as I distanced myself from anyone who challenged me.”
