The world record for baking the longest baguette is back where it should be: in France. Twelve bakers made a baguette of more than 140 meters on Sunday. The previous record was held by Italian bakers.

It was on the occasion of the Baguette Show in Suresnes, France that twelve bakers came up with the idea of setting a new world record. Because, they felt, the baguette is French cultural heritage and so the record belonged nowhere else but with them.

So they started baking on Sunday. The dough was made on site. Afterwards the bread went into a special oven. Result: a real baguette of no less than 140.53 meters long. It now has a place in the Guinness World Records book.

The previous record dated from June 16, 2009, when bakers from Como, Italy, baked a baguette of ‘only’ 132.62 meters.

After a bailiff measured the bread on Sunday, it was spread with Nutella and distributed.
