ÖFB team as group winners in the round of 16
St. Pölten (OTS) – “It’s fantastic, but we have always believed in this team together. You can see what willpower and unbridled commitment can make possible. I have the greatest respect for the performance of the ÖFB eleven. All of Austria is incredibly proud of its footballers,” said Deputy Governor and Sports Minister Udo Landbauer shortly after the victory against the Netherlands in the last group match.
Now, from the round of 16 onwards, the ÖFB team can be expected to do anything. “Our boys not only survived a so-called group of death, they won it and can now enter the knockout phase with confidence,” said Landbauer, who hopes that the “ÖFB summer fairytale” will continue for as long as possible.
The round of 16 match continues on Tuesday. The opponent has not yet been decided – but as things stand, it should be a beatable team. “Humble and stay grounded. Austria made history today as group winners ahead of France and Holland. Now let’s enjoy this great moment,” concluded Landbauer.
