Yes, this is exactly the case with an electric Ford utility vehicle with an aluminum body and body, which alone weighs less than three tons as a complete set, has a gigantic traction battery, all-wheel drive, offers enormous living space and perhaps even vulgar consumption.

At first glance, you can clearly identify the battery-powered model of the classic F150 by its unique appearance, especially the front strip of daytime running lights running all over the hood looks very rough, so when you drive someone’s car at night , they feel as if the devil himself is sitting behind the wheel of the car. And how often he is right.

The front trunk has a decent volume of 400 liters.

Don’t look for a radiator grill here, there isn’t one, just a textured area covering the front. Wondering what’s under the hood? One of the coolest things about this model: the storage space! The front “frunk”, as such a trunk is called, offers a volume of 400 liters, so you can put a lot of things and luggage in it. And if you buy a rear trunk cover, count on a volume of less than 1,500 liters by American standards.

Furthermore, you will not have to scratch the bed in any way, because you can electrically lower its cover, which includes a counter, etc., and then remove the step and the telescopic support rod. In the style of Dr. Gregory House to be able to comfortably climb into bed, where you will also find electrical sockets to connect tools or other appliances. If we have to evaluate the body in one word, we can only write “brilliant”!

There is no need to strain when getting into bed. You didn’t win legs at bingo after all.

Otherwise, the rear lights are also combined to create a modern effect, and despite the car’s electric traction, there is no shortage of spare wheel or side skirts. Structurally we can also talk about the heavily redesigned rear axle, which houses the rear electric motor. So the Ford F-150 Lightning is still mounted on a chassis, but modified to carry a large battery pack.

Also worth mentioning are the suspensions, reinforced as standard, and the independent suspensions for both axles. Furthermore, the towing capacity, which in the United States is a maximum of around 4,500 kg for the tested setup, is usually defined as doublecab in our country.

Inspiration from the Mustang

The interior is similar to the classic F-150 with the difference that the central touchscreen, which the Lightning took from the Mustang Mach-E, is also fully electric. It is therefore a vertical display with a new SYNC interface and a control wheel in the center.

It’s not here for show, but it has a rather practical function. Not only can you use it to adjust the audio, for example, but after clicking on the heated seats, you can choose its intensity by rotating it. The same also applies to the other selected functions, which are somehow set in stages.

The interface itself evokes Tesla inspiration, only with many more options. However, the software is ultimately easy to use and, after a bit of learning, intuitive and clear. In short, it is often enough to deselect functions in the “I want, I don’t want” style.

The information system has many functions, but you usually solve them with the style “I want, I don’t want”.

Apart from this “touch mania”, the car adheres to the motto “every other function has its own button”, so there is no shortage of a controller for the adjustable pedals, additional side lighting or a selector that activates the towing assistant of trailers. .

Even in the electric version you will not be deprived of a large armrest, where you can place your shopping from the convenience store, or of a folding gear lever, so as to transform the armrest into a small and straight work table. In short, the features of the classic combustion F-150 have been transferred to the electric version, including storage compartments under the rear seats, a sliding rear window or drawers in the interior.

There’s also plenty of space all around, including for rear passengers. In the Ford F-150 Lightning you can truly stretch out like a master and, in other words, sleep soundly in the back seats. In short, it’s America in spray paint.

The dark side of electromobility

And now finally the journey, which is an experience in itself. Who remembers the famous phrase of Darth Vader from Star Wars “feel the power of the dark side”, translated as “feel the power of the dark side”, yes, the F-150 Lightning is on the dark side of electromobility . And maybe that’s why she’s so good.

The beating of the car at full throttle is quite obvious, the huge tornado can exemplary demonstrate the power of electric drive and make you smile. We think that even detractors of battery-powered vehicles would eventually come to respect the F-150 Lightning, as its features are quite refined.

The F-150 Lightning is a real electric car, which goes a bit against the philosophy of economical and eco-friendly electric cars.

The electric F-150 is a steroid-treated bodybuilder following a vegan diet against the often fun electric mini-cars. But he still has muscles like Arnold Schwarzenegger in his prime.

Another flaw of the car are the aforementioned batteries, which in the tested version with extended range have a capacity of 131 kWh. Oh yes, a third more than the Tesla Model X, almost double the Skoda Enyaq and five times more than the first Nissan Leaf. Considering the gigantic battery full of expensive products, one can certainly understand that this car is not very “eco”.

The manufacturer also offers a basic version with a 98 kWh battery, but for us it doesn’t make much sense if you can have 131 kWh.

And not even the range, because in winter with R20 winter tires with economical driving below the limits you get a consumption of 34 kWh per cent, which is a crazy figure, and the winter range is therefore a maximum of around 380 km. But we are really talking about pleasant trips.

As soon as you start to use the available power a little more, you accelerate especially on the highway, whereby the average consumption indicator rises to 40 kWh, easily even to 45 kWh percent. Well, with a full charge we are at most less than 300 km.

The car eats like a tank even when driving economically. Dynamic like a tank and a half.

Also bear in mind that due to Czech legislation the car is limited to 3.5 tonnes, so due to its weight, towing device and five-seater layout, you will have less than 400 kilograms left for transport. load with the tested specifications.

However, you probably won’t be buying a long-distance electric F-150 with a boat in tow, as we have six- or eight-cylinder models. The electric F-150 will be a decoration of the streets of the Czech Republic, a representative of the theater, a perfect partner for the mountains or an enviable mom taxi that will take children to school even in cases where the apocalypse is raging outside and even the four wheels from Subaru will fit.

Funny mastodon with insects

The Lightning really is a mastodon, and if you can harness its power, get ready for a really fun car, but as an electric car it makes no sense in our area. But you don’t really mind because you simply have to have it because you simply want it. Also, like the combustion F-150, this mobile barn has only two flaws: it eats and there is nowhere to park it, which is sometimes difficult even with chargers.

As for charging (it can handle DC up to 150 kW), you will have noticed that this is a foreign version, however here charging works perfectly through reductions, so you can power the car at both AC and DC stations, i.e. also from the socket, which however is more emergency due to the capacity/consumption of the battery.

The Ford F-150 Lightning model is brought to the Czech Republic by Ford AMB, which has its showroom in Ořech, Prague. As this is an individual import/approval, sales, warranty and service are governed by AMB’s terms and not by Ford as such. The F-150 Lightning with lower power and smaller battery is officially sold in Norway, but few other service providers will have “notes” about it in the Czech Republic. So it’s a certain “tax” for exclusivity.

Surely the question will arise what to do with the information system, navigation, map materials and remote control via an application, but AMB specialists have a remedy for this problem by playing with software for the European type, where everything works as it should. Optionally, the car is compatible with Apple CarPlay / Android Auto.

The price of a new AMB part varies, depending on the equipment, from 2.6 to 3.0 million crowns including VAT. The new piece tested in the second highest equipment Lariat (translated as lasso intended for catching game) is currently also sold for 2.6 million crowns, including taxes. And since it is category N1, you can get a state subsidy of up to CZK 250,000 for the car, combined with a loan of up to CZK 2 million.
