Torrential rains have raised water levels in Guangdong rivers. As a result, state media have warned of the risk of a once-in-a-century flood. Cities were flooded. Cropland is flooded. The bridge collapsed. 100,000 people have been evacuated. At least 25,000 of them have been kept in emergency shelters.

Authorities recorded 609 millimeters of rain in the provincial capital Guangzhou this April, the highest since records began in 1959. While it usually rains in September in the region, this time it started earlier. And this is why the flood has occurred untimely.

Besides, a red alert has been issued in China’s third largest coastal city, Shenzhen.

According to a report published by the United Nations on Tuesday, Asian countries will be most affected by climate change in 2023.
