Mahbubul Alam, president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), an apex organization of traders, called on field level traders to be active to keep the market of daily necessities stable.

He said this in the speech of the chief guest at a discussion meeting organized on daily commodities at the office of Moulvibazar Traders Association located in Old Dhaka of the capital on Saturday (March 30).

FBCCI president said, we are moving towards trillion dollars. Although we are a small country, our market is very big. We have trade with many neighboring countries and regions. Bangladesh is a market of about 200 billion people. Businessmen should unite and advance the country’s economy.

Mahbubul Alam said that the price of daily commodities such as onion, potato etc. is very bearable in this Ramadan and wants the cooperation of customs along with reduction of duty on daily commodities till Eid al-Adha. He believes that creating a proper database is very important to keep the supply chain in order.

Speaking as a special guest, FBCCI Senior Vice President and FBCCI Market Monitoring Committee Convener Amin Helali said that every year 2.2 million people are employed in the country, most of which are through the private sector. Apart from strengthening the country’s economy, the private sector is making an important contribution in creating employment.

FBCCI Vice President Rashedul Hossain Chowdhury (Roni) said that businessmen invest to do business, not to steal. Small business owners often don’t understand the rules. But before taking legal action, they should be given an opportunity to defend themselves. The country should be taken forward with everyone.

National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate Deputy Director Vikas Chandra Das said the Consumer Rights Protection Directorate is governed by law. It is not their intention to harass businesses. He urged the businessmen to preserve all the information and documents of the business.

Abdul Jabbar Mondal, assistant director of the National Consumer Protection Directorate, said that if the cash memo system is introduced, the abnormal increase in the prices of daily necessities will be reduced to a large extent. He also commented that adulteration of products can be prevented and product prices can be kept under control if traders are aware and vocal.

Moulvibazar Business Association President Haji Md. Under the chairmanship of Bashir Uddin, directors of FBCCI, members of the market monitoring committee, senior police officers, government officials and business leaders were present.
