Hezbollah launched rocket attacks on Israel from southern Lebanon, most of which were destroyed in mid-air by Iron Dome.
MIDDLE EAST ON THE VERGE OF WAR
Following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Iran, tensions in the Middle East have reached a peak. While Iran and Hezbollah vow revenge against Israel, the most feared is coming true.
HİZBULLAH’TAN İSRAİL’E ROKET SALDIRISI
Hezbollah launched a large number of rockets from southern Lebanon towards Israel. Hezbollah reportedly launched 15 rockets at locations in the Upper Galilee in northern Israel, with most of the rockets destroyed in mid-air by the Iron Dome.
The interceptor rockets left light trails in the air, while sparks were scattered around as a result of the explosions. The Israeli army fired flares at least twice into the border area during the night. It was reported that some of the rockets caused fires where they landed.
HIZBULLAH OATHED REVENGE
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, in his speech at the funeral of Fuad Shukur, who was killed in an Israeli attack, said that the war with Israel had entered a new phase. “Even if Israel crosses the red lines, the only solution is to end the war in Gaza,” said Nasrallah, announcing that Israel would be responded to.
Nasrallah said there would be a “definite” response to the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas’ political bureau, adding, “There is no room for debate that the enemy should expect our response.” Hezbollah leader Nasrallah reiterated his emphasis on revenge, saying the group was seeking a “real and studied response” to the attack that killed Haniyeh.
HANIE ASSASSINATION
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. In a statement made in the early hours of July 31, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that Haniyeh’s residence in Tehran was attacked. Iran and the Hamas Movement held Israel responsible for the vile assassination.
Born in a refugee camp in Gaza in 1962, Ismail Haniyeh has been an important figure since the founding of Hamas. Jailed by Israel many times, Haniyeh survived an assassination attempt by Israel in 2003. After Hamas won the elections three years later, Haniyeh briefly served as Prime Minister of Palestine and was elected head of Hamas’ political bureau in 2017. Haniyeh led the Hamas delegation in negotiations mediated by Qatar, the US and Egypt.
