Vishwas Nyaz found this claim to be misleading in its investigation. Speaking at an election rally in support of the Congress candidate, Adhir Ranjan Choudhary had made the remarks to highlight the shortcomings of TMC compared to BJP. His entire speech was about seeking support for Congress.

New Delhi (Vishvas News.) Amidst the ongoing voting for the Lok Sabha elections, a viral post on social media is claiming that West Bengal Congress President Adhir Ranjan Choudhary is allegedly appealing to the people to vote for BJP instead of TMC.

Vishvas News in its investigation found this claim to be misleading. Speaking at an election rally in support of the Congress candidate, Adhir Ranjan Choudhary had made the remarks to highlight the shortcomings of TMC compared to BJP. His entire speech was about seeking support for Congress.

What is viral?

Facebook user ‘Gopesh Poshaks A Vasudev’, while sharing the viral post (archive link) on May 2, wrote, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhary says it is better to vote for BJP instead of TMC… BJP will soon vote in West Bengal. There is going to be a huge victory.”

investigation

To investigate the viral post, we started searching for the full clip of this speech. We learned that this clip was taken from Adhir Ranjan Choudhary’s speech in Murshidabad. On Google open keyword search, we found this entire speech live-streamed on the official Facebook page of the Indian National Congress – West Bengal. According to this, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary was campaigning for Murtaza Hussain contesting from Jangipur Lok Sabha constituency. On listening to the full clip, it was found that at 25:08 minutes of his speech, Chaudhary said, “Modi has become pale with each passing day. Modi no longer has the charisma he used to have. Initially, Modi claimed that he would bring more than 400 seats. They are not crossing 400 now. Modi no longer has that appeal. As per current surveys, Modi has already lost 100 seats and is likely to lose more seats in the coming days, so make no mistake. It is very important for Congress and Left Front to win. If Congress and Left Front are not successful, it will be a blow to India’s secularism. Instead of voting for Trinamool, it would be better for you to vote for BJP instead. Voting for BJP is better than voting for Trinamool. But don’t vote for Trinamool or BJP.

Apart from this, we also got a press statement from the Congress Party, in which they have clarified that Chaudhary’s speech is being spread in a false manner. He has also lodged a complaint with the Election Commission regarding this matter.

We talked to Dainik Jagran’s West Bengal journalist JK Vajpayee in this matter. He said “This video is from Murshidabad, where Adhir Ranjan Choudhary was campaigning for Murtaza Hussain contesting from Jangipur Lok Sabha constituency. He had asked for votes not for BJP but for Congress only.”

Let us tell you that voting is to be held in Murshidabad on 7th May. With a total of 22 assembly constituencies, Murshidabad is an important electoral battleground in West Bengal.

The viral post was shared by a Facebook user named Gopesh Poshaks A Vasudev. The user has around 1500 followers.
