Billionaire Elon Musk visited the memorial at Germany’s former Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp on Monday, along with his 3-year-old son X AE A-12. He did so after encouraging an anti-Semitic statement on X in November last year, for which Musk was harshly criticized and went to Poland out of remorse.
In the afternoon he also spoke in Krakow at a conference on online anti-Semitism organized by the European Jewish Association (EJA). As the owner of the social network
He later mentioned a misunderstanding and apologized. Hate speech researchers also accuse X of not taking decisive enough action against anti-Semitic posts. Major advertisers such as Apple and Disney are ending their partnership with X.
The Auschwitz Memorial preserves the site of the extermination camp set up by Nazi Germany on the territory of occupied Poland during the Second World War. More than 1.1 million people, mostly Jews, died there in gas chambers or from starvation, cold and disease.
To iron out the wrinkles, Elon Musk traveled to Israel on November 27, 2023. There he visited, among other things, a kibbutz where Hamas carried out a massacre on October 7.
