At the beginning of this month of May 2024, El Salvador continues to add days with zero homicides in the national territory, according to data published this Tuesday morning by the National Civil Police (PNC).

The data from the police institution indicate that Monday, May 6, ended with zero homicides throughout the Salvadoran territory, being the third day of the present with this positive security statistic, after six days completed.

These three days recorded at the beginning of May 2024 are added to the 19 days that ended last April and the 21 that were recorded in March of this year. This is also in addition to the 48 days without homicides that occurred in the months of January and February.

This leaves a total of 91 days with zero homicides recorded in El Salvador so far this year 2024, which maintains the trend established in 2022 and 2023, when El Salvador began to record a historic decrease in homicidal violence.

These records have been possible thanks to the implementation of the Territorial Control Plan, a strategy that began in 2019, the year that Nayib Bukele’s presidential term began in El Salvador and that has allowed a frontal combat against crime and gangs.

Likewise, the exception regime, approved in March 2022 and still in force in El Salvador, is another of the strategies that has allowed the capture of more than 70,000 members and collaborators of gang groups, generating a reduction in the actions of these terrorist groups in the country.
