Los Angeles. After a relatively less turbulent time in recent times, with both its valuation and shares hitting new highs, Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta has once again made headlines for the wrong reasons. The global outage of Facebook, Instagram and Threads, Meta’s most valuable platforms, generated a significant amount of traction around the world, with many of them even taking to X (formerly Twitter) to express their anger. Instagram/Facebook was trending down in India and worldwide. The personal accounts of many of its customers were apparently ‘logged out’. Outages were seen in India later in the day.

This outage occurred at a time when US markets were trading. And this had a direct impact on Meta’s shares also. The company’s shares fell 1.60 percent, taking the share price to US$490.22 per piece. It is also reported that Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg, one of the richest men on earth, lost about US$100 million in Tuesday’s trading. According to the current exchange rates, this amount will be equal to about Rs 829 crore. Apart from Instagram and Facebook, WhatsApp is also reported to be having some issues with Threads, which has hampered the brand’s profits and resurgence over the past few months.

This is not the first time such widespread outages are affecting the Meta Run platform. As previously suggested, such disruptions also occurred in previous years, especially in 2021, which affected the reputation and integrity of the brand, plunging it into further trouble. Over the past few months, the company has managed to stabilize its advertising revenue, which is its biggest source of revenue, but, such incidents could pose a threat to the rising numbers. Later in the day, the company issued a statement ‘apologising’ and issuing clarification regarding the restoration of services on all the above platforms.
