Nurlana Asgarova, an ophthalmologist at the Vidnovsky Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Health of the Moscow region, spoke about the importance of choosing the right distance while working on the phone and computer.

“Any modern digital technical devices, for example, LCD TVs or large-diagonal monitors, should be placed at least 35 cm from the visual organs. If you constantly work at a desk, the screen should be at arm’s length from your eyes. First of all, pay attention to your posture, do not bend and tilt your head towards the screen while working. Second, control the direction of your gaze. Look at the device straight on, not from top to bottom or from the side. Looking sideways is the main cause of astigmatism. You need to buy a special stand for an e-book or tablet. It is advisable to keep the smartphone right in front of you,” Asgarova explained.
According to him, it is necessary to use sufficient lighting while working, and these devices should not be used in the dark under any circumstances.
“This quickly leads to overstraining of the most important element of the human visual function – the visual center, thanks to which a person can distinguish not only the shape and color of the objects in question, but also their small details. Take a break. It is recommended to take a break from the monitor, look at the distance every half hour or hour. It is desirable that the desk is located near the window. Since you will have the opportunity to turn your gaze towards the window from time to time, you can always easily compensate for visual stress and allow your eyes to relax. The duration of the eye exercise is from 20 seconds to 1 minute,” the expert emphasized.
To prevent eye diseases, he advised to blink more often. The doctor noted that when working with the monitor, the frequency of blinking of the eyes decreases, which can affect the insufficient hydration of the cornea of the eye and can cause visual defects.
“Also, relieve eye strain. For this, do a small massage, soothe the eye sockets, ears and the back of the head with circular movements of your fingers. Make five to ten soft blows at each point,” the ophthalmologist concluded.
