Do not drink thyme and peppermint teas often – 2024-02-21 01:37:34

Thyme and mint have many beneficial properties and are widely used in herbal teas, but their use can be dangerous for certain groups of people.

Publika.az informs that biologist Roman Oparin said this in a conversation with “Lenta.ru”.

“First of all, consuming large amounts of thyme in pregnant women causes premature contractions. Also, the active components of thyme can pass into breast milk, which has a negative effect on the health of the baby. In addition, some people may be allergic to this plant.

It should also be noted that the active components of thyme interact with some medications, reducing their effectiveness or causing unwanted side effects. Therefore, if you are taking any medicine, do not risk it and consult a doctor.

Peppermint is also one of the most popular medicinal herbs and can be beneficial for most people when used in tea, but it also carries some dangers. For example, the plant can be a very powerful stimulant of the delicate gastrointestinal tract in children. Therefore, it is not recommended to give them mint tea without consulting a pediatrician. Consuming large amounts of mint in particular can temporarily lower blood pressure. Therefore, people who already have low blood pressure should take peppermint tea with caution.

Some people may be allergic to plants containing peppermint and its modifications. Therefore, if a reaction occurs after taking mint, you should not add it to tea,” the expert advised.

Besides thyme and mint, there are other herbs that can be dangerous or harmful to some people when used in herbal teas. For example:

Mountain tarragon: It is dangerous for pregnant women, people with hypertension or pathology of the cardiovascular system.

Allspice: It can cause increased blood pressure and cardiovascular problems.

Ginseng: It can increase blood pressure, so people with hypertension or cardiovascular problems should avoid consuming it.

Chinese crab lemon: It can cause allergic reactions in some people, so you should be careful when using it, especially if you are allergic to citrus fruits.

“It is important to remember that each person is unique and the reaction to herbal teas may be different. It is always recommended to consult a doctor or herbalist before using any new herbal preparations,” Oparin concluded.
