He could never see the World Cup in his playing life. After scoring so many runs and witnessing many big wins, the World Cup remains adorable for Rahul Dravid. Even though India reached the final of the 2003 World Cup, they had to lose.
After nearly two decades, Dravid again reached the final of the ODI World Cup last year, this time as a coach. But this time also his dream was broken. India finally won the T20 World Cup in 2024. Rahul Dravid told the Indian journalists about his feelings after winning this tournament.
He said, ‘I am really at a loss for words in the last few hours. Very proud of this team for the way they battled through tough conditions. Even today I feel like a tough test. The team had lost three wickets in the first six overs, the condition we were in; The boys also fought there and kept faith.’
Dravid said about his title drought, ‘You know, I have not been lucky enough to win the World Cup as a player. But whenever I played, I tried my best. It’s part of the game.’
This year’s T20 World Cup was held in the Caribbean Islands. Dravid came as the captain in the ODI World Cup held here in 2007. But his team was eliminated from the group stage. Is the curse now?
Dravid replied, ‘There is no question of curse removal here. I am not the kind of person to think about such things. I know many such players who did not win the trophy. I’m lucky to have been given the job of coach and the boys to celebrate winning the trophy.’
‘Feeling good. But it’s not like I set out to get rid of anything. It’s just work I’m doing. I love working, love working with Rohit and the team. It was a great journey and I enjoyed it.’
