The Banco Guayaquil stadium will host the match between Deportivo Cuenca and DelfÃn for the Conmebol Sudamericana.

Independiente del Valle confirmed its support for the Banco Guayaquil stadium to be the home of Deportivo Cuenca against Delfín in the single match of the first phase of the Sudamericana, on March 6.

Luis Saritama, sports director of Cuenca, indicated that the Club is awaiting approval from Conmebol once they have completed all the required procedures. The Club will assume an operating cost.

Cuenca was forced to move the match to another city after Conmebol did not enable the Alejandro Serrano Aguilar stadium due to lighting deficiency.

Initially option B was the George Capwell stadium. Due to the state of emergency, in Guayaquil the authorities are not generating permits for massive events.

Few lux

“With the implementation of all the luminaires and everything that was done, the LED (spotlights), and everything, the rating reached approximately 350 (lux),” said Saritama.

The Conmebol Sudamericana 2024 club manual requires at least that the stage have vertical lighting of 650 lux, for provisional authorization after financial retention.

Saritama confessed that in 2022 the Club relied on a certification company in order to know the steps to follow to have good lighting in the municipal stadium.

“This report contemplates the use of current towers and increasing two more to meet the requirements of Conmebol.”

Restructuring

What happens if Cuenca gets a ticket to the group stage? Once I would have problems using the stadium because the lighting values were below those required.

«That implies a very important investment. I would believe that for an international event to take place in Cuenca there must be a total restructuring in terms of lighting,” said Saritama.

On Wednesday, February 14, the field inspection will take place. Representatives of Conmebol and the Ecuadorian Football Federation will indicate whether or not the field is suitable for LigaPro or Conmebol tournaments.
