CSK won against KKR by 7 wickets

Chennai: After the talent of Tushar Deshpande, Mustafizur Rahman and Ravindra Jadeja, with the help of excellent innings of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dubey, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won by 7 wickets. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium here on Monday.
CSK continued their dominance at the fort and reached home without breaking a sweat, ending KKR’s unbeaten streak in this tournament. Chennai captain Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 67 runs and scored the winning runs for the team. Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra got the chase of 138 off to a strong start as the openers put huge pressure on the KKR bowlers.
Vaibhav Arora drew first blood for KKR as he dismissed CSK opener Rachin Ravindra for 10 runs. In the sixth over, Ramandeep was caught by new batsman Daryl Mitchell at deep backward square leg.
Daryl Mitchell and Gaikwad continued the attack, thrashing the KKR bowlers at regular intervals. CSK captain Gaikwad completed his half-century in 45 balls. In the 13th over, Sunil Narine broke the 70-run partnership between Mitchell and Gaikwad. Narine dismissed Mitchell for 25 runs. Shivam Dubey came to the crease and hit some brilliant shots, taking CSK closer to victory before losing his wicket to Vaibhav Arora at 28 off 18.
Dubey’s wicket invited MS Dhoni to the crease and the stadium erupted with loud slogans as the crowd’s favorite wicketkeeper-batsman came to the crease. Gaikwad hit a four in the 18th over and helped his team win by 7 wickets.
Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja’s brilliant spell of 3/18 restricted KKR to 137/9 in the 20th over. Gaikwad won the toss and decided to bowl first. KKR lost their in-form opener Phil Salt on the very first ball of the innings. After Salt’s wicket, Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi took Knight Riders past 50 runs in the fifth over.
The Kolkata franchise lost both the batsmen in the seventh over, which was bowled by all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. First, the spinner dismissed Raghuvanshi for 24 with the help of three fours and a six and then dismissed Narine who made 27 with the help of three fours and two sixes.
Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer were at the crease after two consecutive wickets fell in Jadeja’s over. Both the batsmen were able to add only four runs when the team’s score was 64 runs in the ninth over. Venkatesh returned to the pavilion on Jadeja’s ball after scoring only three runs.
After Venkatesh’s wicket, Ramandeep Singh came to support his captain Shreyas. Both of them were able to add only 21 runs to the total score when in the 12th over, Ramandeep was sent back to the dressing room after scoring only 13 runs in his innings.
Rinku Singh along with Shreyas made a partnership of 27 runs, but Rinku was out after scoring only nine runs. Andre Russell came forward to bat in the middle. This right-handed batsman was only able to make a partnership of 15 runs with Shreyas when he was out after scoring 10 runs on the ball of Tushar Deshpande in the 19th over when the team’s score was 127.
In the 20th over, Mustafizur Rahman took two wickets in the last over of his spell and finished the innings with figures of 4-0-22-2. He took the wickets of Shreyas and Mitchell Starc.
Apart from Mustafizur, Jadeja and Deshpande took three wickets each for 18 and 33 runs respectively in their four-over spell.
