Uber will appeal against the decision of the Commission for the Regulation of the Employment Relationship (CAR) requiring three Uber Eats delivery drivers to be reclassified as salaried employees. The company reported this on Friday. The labor court will have to rule on the case.

In December 2023, three couriers from Uber Eats asked the committee whether the platform’s requirement to register as a self-employed person was in accordance with the law and whether “this activity should not previously have been carried out as an employee”.

The committee ruled that the freedom of the delivery drivers is very relative and ordered that they be reclassified as salaried workers.

“We regret this outcome, which is based on the individual circumstances of three individuals and applies only to them,” the billion-dollar American company responded. “Thousands of independent couriers choose our app because of the flexibility to decide if, when and where they want to work. We will appeal this decision,” a spokesperson said.
