The International Labor Organization has prepared a report on weekly working hours in countries.

Publika.az reports that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was the first in terms of the longest weekly working hours. Workers in the country work 50.9 hours per week.

China took the second place in the list. Workers in China work 46.1 hours per week.

In the prepared report, India is third with 46.7 hours. Turkey is fourth in the list. There, employees work 43.3 hours a week. On average, one in four workers has to work long hours.

Also, workers in Greece work an average of 39.7 hours, and in Germany 34.7 hours. While workers in the United States work 38 hours, in the Netherlands they work an average of 31.6 hours.

It should be recalled that Article 89 of the Labor Code of Azerbaijan states that full-time work is the time determined for employees to perform their labor functions within the weekly and daily working hours stipulated in this Code. The daily normal working time cannot exceed 8 hours. The duration of the weekly normal working time corresponding to the daily normal working time cannot be determined more than 40 hours.

According to Article 90 of the Code, as a rule, a five-day working week with two rest days is defined. Depending on the nature of the production, work, service and working conditions, the employer or the relevant executive authority may determine a six-day work week within the duration of the weekly full-time work. In a six-day work week, if the weekly norm is 40 hours, the duration of daily working time may not exceed 7 hours, if the weekly norm is 36 hours, the duration of daily working time may not exceed 6 hours, and if the weekly norm is 24 hours, the duration of daily working time may not exceed 4 hours.

In practice, the work schedule that corresponds to full-time work and is more commonly applied starts at 09:00 and ends at 18:00. One of the most frequently asked questions in this regard is why the working time is recorded as 8 hours in the timesheet (table), since there is an actual 9-hour period between the two indicated times? According to the legislation, during the working hours, the employee is given a rest time or a lunch time, and during that time the employee leaves work. In practice, the lunch break is defined as 1 hour between 13:00 and 14:00. The employee must work 8 hours from 09:00 to 18:00, as rest or lunch time is not included in the working time. Therefore, 8 hours of daily working time are recorded in the time table (table) drawn up in enterprises.
