University Prof. Gartlehner and Prof. Haditsch in the first public controversial discussion. Both are now calling for an evaluation of the Corona measures.

Vienna (OTS) The eagerly awaited first Corona discussion took place yesterday with every last seat reserved. In addition to a tough but appreciative exchange of blows between Univ. Prof. Gerald Gartlehner and Prof. Martin Haditsch also uncovered surprising topics.

University Prof. Gartlehner: Framing as “horse dewormer was polemic”

Ivermectin originally showed antiviral effects in Australian studies. It could be considered as a potentially effective drug. Only later did it turn out that it didn’t work. It was therefore inadmissible to highlight individual studies on effectiveness; instead, the studies as a whole had to be analyzed. Self-medication with Ivermectin is dangerous, but the fact that the drug was called a horse dewormer was polemic. The overdose can be harmful to your health. Gartlehner also made people sit up and take notice: “Ethical behavior cannot be expected from pharmaceutical companies.”

Prof. Haditsch “Ivermectin is better than vaccination”

Ivermectin was used in veterinary medicine from 1981 and later also in human medicine. It has no significant toxicity; in 2015, the inventor of the drug received the Nobel Prize in Human Sciences. Ivermectin significantly reduces Covid deaths. Even if the drug were only 10% effective, it would have saved millions of lives globally. Therapy is never a monotherapy, but always a treatment mix. It has been used in some states in India and has brought a significant reduction in deaths from Covid illness. The overdose does not pose a danger; you would have to be run over by a truck loaded with ivermectin. Haditsch criticizes the one-sided focus on vaccinations against Covid. Austrian in vitro studies showing the effectiveness of ivermectin were not published when pressed.

Common demand for reappraisal

As expected, both parties were unable to reach agreement on the issue of ivermectin. Conclusion: While Prof. Gartlehner denies the drug any effectiveness, Prof. Haditsch sees it as being unfairly discredited. The discussants agreed that the federal government’s pandemic management must be evaluated. Gartlehner emphasizes: “A lot of things went badly, and due to the numerous collateral damage, a reappraisal is now absolutely necessary.”

Haditsch sharper: “The government made enormous mistakes; there was no scientific evidence for most of the measures. The population suffered because it was grossly negligently manipulated.”

Continuation possible

For Bernhard Costa, spokesman for the entrepreneurial platform “We EMUs”, who invited people to the discussion, the event was a complete success. “What the government and ORF don’t want to do and have achieved – we have succeeded. Scientific representatives from diametrically opposed viewpoints exchanged ideas in a factual and constructive manner. If all scientists had demonstrated a similar ability to engage in discourse during the Corona period, a lot of suffering and division could have been avoided.” Costa regrets that many editors-in-chief did not attend the event or did not want to report on it despite a personal invitation. However, the interest of the public in the completely sold-out hall was enormous. That’s why the “We EMUs” platform is now considering continuing the event.
