There are only a few weeks left before the new electricity production plant in Ambohimanambola is operational. According to the Ministry of Energy and Hydrocarbons (MEH), the engine blocks, which will be installed in this power plant, are already expected in Mauritius. As soon as they arrive on this island, these blocks will be immediately transported by large aircraft to Ivato. “These are seven engine blocks which each have a production capacity of 15 MW and which operate with heavy oil (HFO). The objective is to increase the electricity production capacity for the RIA (Antananarivo Interconnected Network),” indicated those responsible for the project, to the supervisory ministry. According to forecasts, the work for the installation of this new power plant should be completed towards the end of January or the beginning of February 2024. Please note that this thermal power plant installation project is entirely financed by the State. It should solve load shedding problems, especially during low water periods when hydroelectric power stations produce very little energy.
