from a test they conducted at the Ministry of Economy and Industry And the Israeli Consumer Council on the subject of a basket of product prices for Passover, it appears that the gap between the cheap chain and the expensive one is 35 percent, which is about NIS 1,002. As of today (Tuesday), the cheapest network is Rami Levy, and the most expensive is AM:PM.

In the inspection conducted, which is the third in recent times, it was also found that in some products, price differences of more than two times were found between the cheapest chain and the most expensive.

According to the data, the average price of the product basket increased by 0.5% compared to the average price of the basket published about a week ago, on April 8 (which was 0.5% cheaper compared to the basket tested on April 2).

The test refers to 155 products, in 54 chains, which have a national distribution (including websites).
Among the findings: there is a gap of 190% in the prices of frozen green peas, 146% in the prices of fresh beef/veal asado, and a gap of 122% in the prices of chocolate covered matzah cookies.

The tests are based on price data processed after being received from the Pricez website. This test provides consumers with information about the price differences and a comparison of the cost of the basket between the chains. The data can be found on the websites of the Ministry of Economy and Industry and the Consumer Council.

The tested products are food products unique to the holiday (such as matzoh, Pesach cookies, etc.), cleaning products, as well as food products that are bought all year round, but are purchased in larger volumes for the holiday (such as meat, fish and poultry, fruits and vegetables).

Vice President of Strategy and Policy at the Ministry of Economy and Industry, Michal Fink: “The vigilance and determination of consumers is necessary to reduce the cost of living. Against the background of the basket data, we recommend consumers to compare prices between different products, to split purchases between different chains if there are significant gaps between products, not to be tempted specifically by well-known brands and to try new products as well, to shop online, compare in apps and more. The fight against the cost of living is shared by the government and consumers and achievements in it will be achieved by joint action.”

CEO of the Consumer Council, Attorney Sharon Meir: “Especially in the run-up to the holiday when expenses are higher than usual, act like wise consumers: prepare ahead of time and already make your shopping list. It is desirable and possible to do your shopping earlier to avoid price increases as you get closer to the holiday. Compare prices between the chains and between the brands, and split up your shopping as much as possible. The struggle The cost of living is largely under the control of consumers – be wise consumers.”
