While working on Cyberpunk 2077, developer CD Projekt RED pondered the idea of including multiplayer elements. Ultimately the project never came to fruition, but the team didn’t give up on the idea entirely.
Studio head Adam Badowski explained to Reuters that the team will explore opportunities to include multiplayer in the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. However, Badowski couldn’t say anything about what that would ultimately look like.
The project, known as Orion, is currently only in the conceptual phase. The team working on the game is therefore still small, but the head of CD Projekt expects it to reach around 80 people by the end of the year.
Before the Polish developer really deals with Cyberpunk, however, it’s The Witcher’s turn. CD Projekt has been moving more and more employees to work on the future of the adventure series, and now it’s time for the next phase of development.
Badowski was able to confirm that full production on the next The Witcher will begin in 2024. The goal is for the team, which had around 250 employees last summer, to grow to around 400 by the middle of the year.
The next Witcher game was originally announced for 2022, with the working title Polaris. It’s not yet known exactly what (or who) it will be about, but CD Projekt has confirmed that the game will be the first of a new trilogy.
