The Caterpillar company celebrated its 25th anniversary since it settled in the city of Torreón. The plant has expanded five times what it started, manufacturing and supplying more steel products to the United States.
The general director of Caterpillar Torreón, Gregorio Garza, pointed out that it began in 1999 with 200,000 square feet and currently occupies almost a million. There were nearly 150 workers and today there are over a thousand. In this sense, he indicated that the challenge is to continue with this development and maintain competitiveness to continue gaining in products and, in this way, continue growing.
Aarón Molina, operations manager, mentioned that the company belongs to the metal mechanics industry and produces machinery using steel. Their main manufacturing process is manual welding but they also have other assemblies and robotic welding.
He pointed out that this project began in Torreón in 1999 and meant great news in terms of job offers and economic growth, as well as the opportunity for workers to continue their careers.
He indicated that a solid collaboration has been maintained with commercial partners seeking fair agreements for both parties. He pointed out that today the work team includes second generations.
Garza highlighted the privileged location that the Lagunera Region has, which has helped them a lot in terms of exporting to the United States. He said that all of his products are exported for the construction market, metal structures for machines.
The event was attended by Caterpillar executives at the regional and international level, such as Dave Emonson and Filip Marek, as well as the mayor of Torreón, Román Cepeda, and the Secretary of Economy of Coahuila, Claudio Bres Garza.
In his speech, the secretary said that there are very few states in the country that are growing and Torreón has gained 2,800 new jobs. He assured that the conditions are provided to continue with this development.
EMPLOYMENT GENERATION
For his part, Mayor Román Cepeda highlighted the arrival of investments in Torreón and the generation of jobs in a historic figure, since so far this year 5,500 job positions have been created, of which 3 thousand correspond to last April.
He said that thanks to the security conditions, rule of law and labor peace that prevail, the city is attractive for national and foreign investors.
Regarding the company’s anniversary, the mayor expressed the support of the Municipal Administration, so that its development continues for the benefit of all Torreón residents.
“This anniversary represents commitment, productivity, competitiveness, and it is an honor to be here; we have the great commitment to continue supporting you in this last year of administration,” he commented.
He indicated that investments continue to come to the city in different areas such as hospitals and franchises, he described it as important to continue generating the conditions for this development to be maintained.
“We have qualified labor and we continue working on security, to maintain the conditions for the arrival of investments,” he said.
