The mayor of Santiago, Irací Hassler, and former president Michelle Bachelet participated in the ceremony, who highlighted the importance of the work of this entity.

Santiago. 3/3/2024. The mayor of Santiago, Irací Hassler, the former president Michelle Bachelet, councilors, legislators, neighborhood and social leaders, participated in the celebration of the first year of operation of Casa Igualdad, in the Santiago commune.

Casa Igualdad, located at 425 Ventura Lavalle Street, is the first physical care space in the commune of Santiago and part of the Neighborhood Care System. A place where psychological, legal, rehabilitation help has been provided with kinesiologists, occupational therapists, TENS, self-care, complementary therapies, training, cultural and community activities, among others.

From March 2023 to date, this space has provided nearly 3,000 services, held 114 workshops with the participation of more than 800 people, in addition to the creation of the care brigade that carried out more than 1,700 services in 2023 alone. .

In this regard, Mayor Irací Hassler stated that “it is a pleasure to be able to meet today to celebrate the first year of Casa Igualdad. When I was on my way to this space I thought about how many things we have been able to promote, achieve and share to transform life in the neighborhood commune and capital of Santiago and how much more we can continue building so that all the people and especially those who have put their work and body to care for others can have the recognition, autonomy and development that each person deserves.”

“I especially want to congratulate the new institutionality that we created when we took over this municipality, the Subdirectorate of Gender Equality, Sexual Diversity and Inclusion, which has placed the equality of all people at the center and promoted a rights-based approach throughout our municipality. and work on it through learning, training, and also being able to share among ourselves, putting care at the center,” said the community leader.

Former president Michelle Bachelet valued what was done in Santiago, highlighting the care brigade and maintained that “training a group of unemployed women to support older people or people with disabilities by carrying out daily life tasks as important as shopping, searching for medications, request medical hours, accompany them to medical check-ups and accompany them to collect their pension, which I think is spectacular.”

The former president highlighted the importance of spaces of this type in the face of the aging population of our country and said that “if we think about the elderly who require care, it is expected that by the year 2050 they will be 32% of the total population and that It is equivalent to more than 6 million people, according to ECLAC data. So how important is what is being done here so that we continue to take care of those who take care of us so that our society is that safe space that values, accompanies and integrates all people.”

In the activity, the certification of 34 people was carried out, who approved the First School of Comprehensive Care Summer 2024. A space for learning and comprehensive support for people who care or want to learn about this work, where guidance on comprehensive care is offered, promotes the understanding of care systems and their value as work, and generates tools together with the people they care for.
