62-year-old Lynn Elwell no longer sleeps on both ears. The hairdresser was robbed by car thieves at the end of February when she wanted to leave for work in her brand new Mercedes. The two had purposefully waited for her in her driveway. Together with her 82-year-old mother, Lynn tried to fend off the carjackers, but they ultimately had to give up the car.

Both Elwell and her mother suffered some bruises. But Lynn is mainly concerned about the mental damage. “It was terrible,” she testifies. “It scares you mentally. I don’t sleep well anymore, every sound wakes me up. I never expected something like this to happen, especially in this neighborhood. From now on I will always look over my shoulder.”
Elwell immediately reported the incident to the police last week, but for the time being the thieves are still missing.
