Unfortunately, most European politicians and officials of international organizations try unsuccessfully to pretend that they are not aware of what is happening when they talk about President Ilham Aliyev’s reputation and rating in the country; as if they came down from Mars and are unaware of what has happened in the world, especially in Azerbaijan, in the last few years. The interim report of the Election Observation Mission of the OSCE/ODIHR on the February 7 presidential elections gives full reason for such thinking.
In fact, they know and see everything better than us. What should be the attitude of a society whose land has been occupied for thirty years, whose houses and property have been looted, and whose natives have been captured and killed, towards a leader, a head of state, who has solved this conflict from the roots? Should Azerbaijanis consider the liberation of Karabakh, the fundamental solution of a seemingly never-ending problem, as an ordinary event? For example, like a football match. Two teams played, one won, the other lost, and that’s it? The game is over and everyone should go home?
After all, this is not so. If they are really in favor of truth and justice, they should assess the process by hearing the 30-year sufferings and pains of the Azerbaijani people and analyzing what has happened in the last 30 years. Probably, their countries have never been invaded, or they have never faced Armenian terrorism and Armenian fascism in any form. If it happened to them, they would understand how terrible and unbearable the factor of occupation is, the displacement of innocent people from their homes and cities. Bring a city before your eyes. For example, Khojaly. 30 years ago, it was a small provincial town and its people lived their normal, everyday life. In one night, this city was destroyed along with its people. Can you imagine what that means? It’s hard to imagine, I admit. It is not so difficult to imagine, feel and understand the effects and traces of these horrors and atrocities on a nation, it is a matter of humanity…
And now these cold-headed, cold-blooded Europeans want to check people’s love and trust in Ilham Aliyev, a leader who completely solved the problem and restored the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan. For example, why do other presidential candidates appreciate Ilham Aliyev’s work. After all, they are also citizens of Azerbaijan and they are aware of what Ilham Aliyev has done for this country. At least political culture and political ethics require that they express positive opinions about a person who changed Azerbaijan’s history of defeat over the past 200 years and restored territorial integrity and sovereignty for the first time in the past 200 years. Yes, this is a completely new, different and unusual situation that we have not seen before, we are not used to. We are in the most euphoric phase of our recent history, and miraculous events are happening before our eyes: the historic decision of September 27, 2020, when the whole world was saying “no war”; liberating Shusha with a small force and light weapons at a time when the whole world says that “capturing Shusha is impossible from a military point of view”, de jure with the establishment of a border post on April 23, 2023, de jure with an anti-terrorist measure on September 19-20, 2023, following these miracles – facto, the complete and definitive solution of this conflict, the complete cleansing of this wound, should the scaleless success of holding a military parade in Khankendi be ignored, and the people should forget everything for a month? That is, let’s not mention them, let’s go over them in silence? How does it happen that Roosevelt, who left a great mark in the history of the United States, was elected president 4 times contrary to the political tradition of the United States (the only case in the history of the United States), regardless of his health, the people’s refusal to give up on him is considered normal, even applauded, but Azerbaijan won such a great victory. Is Europe ‘surprised’ by a leader’s rating that delivers?
Do they not see that Ilham Aliyev is a great politician and statesman? Of course they see. After the liberation of Karabakh from occupation, Azerbaijan has repeatedly hosted important international events. As a participant in several of those events, I witnessed how foreign journalists and politicians sympathized with Ilham Aliyev and did not hide it at all. Together with my colleagues, we saw how foreign journalists surrounded the President of Azerbaijan when the International Media Forum was held in Shusha, accompanied him after the event, and did not want to leave. You know what I was thinking then? Can Europeans understand the reason for love and sympathy for Ilham Aliyev? Soon I found the answer. A Latvian journalist who participated in the Shusha Forum wrote approximately as follows on his Facebook account: “To understand the reason for the love for Ilham Aliyev, you need to be in Shusha once and see the Cdir plain once…”
What can be more natural and beautiful than a nation being proud of its leader?
Does Europe not know what the people’s reaction might be if their opponents do not emphasize this success of Ilham Aliyev? Won’t they lynch them?
The most radical people of this country – of course, not those hired by Soros, but people who sincerely love this country and wish for its development, and who have demonstrated their staunch opposition to the government throughout their lives – said in their social media accounts, statements and interviews that they will vote only for Ilham Aliyev in these elections. they proudly declare. They also tell the reason. That is, the Europeans do not “see” this? In the face of so much love, with what logic can Ilham Aliyev’s opponents oppose the success of the People’s Leader or should they?
If even the most jealous and conservative opponents announce that Ilham Aliyev will get 92+ percent of votes in these elections, how can these criticisms be voiced?
At least the results of the February 7, 2024 election should not surprise anyone!
