King Charles III accompanied by Queen Camilla, returned to London on Tuesday, a week after his departure for Sandringham, to undergo the next steps of his treatment.

While medics hover around the monarch, Camilla is taking on some of Charles’ duties and even assumed a new title at Clarence House on Tuesday afternoon – she became an honorary member of the Honorable Society of Fan Manufacturers. During the robes ceremony, she received her own fan made by designer Stewart Parvin (57), who often designed dresses for Elizabeth II. (†96).

Great-grandmother’s fan

“I am very proud to become a part of this family,” declared the moved Queen, adding that she had her own collection of fans upstairs. The ceremony also included an exhibition of fans with a royal past, the main attraction of which was the eagle feather fan of the Queen’s great-grandmother Alice Keppel, who became famous as the mistress of Edward VII.

Princess Diana's nieces came to support William.

The Guild of Fan Makers was established in 1670 on the basis of a petition from Parliament, due to the threat of importing fans from elsewhere. In 1709 he obtained a formal grant issued by the sovereign. Today he mainly focuses on charity and community projects. It accepts people from a wide range of fields into its ranks – it does not exclude “modern fans” such as mechanical turbines.
