The year that has just begun is all about the Cultural Capital of Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024. The New Year’s concert on the evening of January 1st in the Gmunden City Theater marked the brilliant start ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of the young star conductor Tobias Wögerer.
The concert event, which was attended by numerous well-known personalities from politics, business and culture, was completely sold out. The audience was treated to a real musical fireworks display with works by Leonard Bernstein, Friedrich Cerha, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Balduin Sulzer, Johann Strauss, Igor Stravinsky and Germaine Tailleferre, which was rewarded with thunderous applause.
„The New Year’s concert was a great start to the Capital of Culture year 2024,” said enthusiastic Mayor Stefan Krapf. “It is a sign that Gmunden and the Salzkammergut will offer a cultural highlight for the whole of Austria this year.” Cultural advisor Andreas Hecht added: “This was a first-class event and a reputation for Gmunden.”
