A cultural history of the Medical University of Vienna and the Vienna General Hospital by Stefan Oláh
Vienna (OTS) – The Medical University of Vienna, together with its university hospital, the Vienna General Hospital, forms its own district that determines the cityscape. The Viennese photographer Stefan Oláh captures this built substance from almost 250 years in the illustrated book “Architecture of Medical Knowledge – A Cultural History of the Medical University of Vienna and the Vienna General Hospital”. On March 20, 2024 (5 p.m.), MedUni Vienna invites you to a book presentation as part of “20 Years of MedUni Vienna” in the Art Nouveau lecture hall.
Stefan Oláh takes a look behind the scenes at MedUni Vienna and Vienna General Hospital and, in addition to the impressive architecture, also shows operating rooms, medication robots, disinfection lines, phantom rooms and much more. The series of images is supplemented by a cultural studies essay by Ulrike Matzer on the topic.
The illustrated book, published by Verlag Birkhäuser, will be published on April 1, 2024 and will be available, among other places, in the MedUni Shop (entrance area AKH Vienna, level 5).
The book presentation takes place as part of MedUni Vienna’s 20th anniversary celebrations. In May and June 2024, selected photographs from the illustrated book will be exhibited in the gallery of the entrance hall of the AKH University Hospital.
